just to say that i started my gap year with zilch in my bank account, took on several jobs, and funded several months away teaching. as long as you don't go straight for the main gap companies, (they charge a bomb for I know not what) it is doable to take a gap year and not spend it all at home. look at companies like spw, vso, pod. the most important thing you need to look for is local support whilst on the placement, none of this insurance included rubbish, cos they use the cheapest policies around, on the whole.
some people do just do badly with exams despite being well read or knowledgeable- maybe try to improve your exam technique with past papers etc. i only got the hang of history sources papers with a lot of practice!

nafan, ive heard some colleges do a level retakes in just one term, and others in just one year. perhaps this will help you.
a big tip is if you did badly the first time and you missed your uni offers by a lot, then maybe you should choose different subjects next year. all the best!

also with the english (i think) maybe you should have it remarked to make sure you really did miss the grade?

Definitely try clearing.

Lat year, my best friend got only an E and a U for her A-levels, and she got D D E U for her AS-levels too. However, she got a place at the University of Liverpool on a Foundation Course, and she did a year on that and then she joins the uni proper this year on her degree course.

Don't give up hope. There will be a place and a university somewhere.

I think you should go back to college, retake the D subjects and take two new AS-levels - maybe 1 in Media Studies. Also, spend some time talking to your teachers, maybe show them an essay and ask how it could be improved. Also, remember to organise your notes and file everything neatly. :smile:

hi i jst read abt ur unfair marking.. and i wanan tell u its not only u who got that.. i got very low marks 1 c n 2 Dz when i was expecting 2 Az n 1 b !! n i also got sum screwed up teachers that i really wanna kill when i get bak to skool !! i mean they ruined my future!! at least i got a chance of retaking but still i wasnt planning on doing that ! i used to get out of every exam very happy ! i dnt kno wat went wrong..

Not to rain on some peoples' parades but you can't honestly blame your teachers and markers for doing 'badly'. The bottom line is that it is your responsibility to pass those exams and nobody elses. Teachers may help you along the way, but if you don't prepare properly then you're not going to succeed and thats not their problem, but yours. As I say, practice, practice, practice.

lol, not really a northern monkey as such. Im from Leicester which is whack bang in the centre! I was always brought up to believe that it was only midlanders who said it? Didn't know it was an entire northern thing! (*feels less special now*)

It is rare for somebody to have tried really hard, to be deserving of amazing grades and to receive three wack grades - it suggests that you aren't playing the game right at all.

As suggested, if you have the money, then go to a tutorial college (as they are the seasoned pros of retaking A-levels in a year). If not, then you really need to work your ass off (throughout the year) if you are to hit the ground running.

Awesome, where in the midlands did you live? Not somewhere dodgy like Birmingham I hope! lol. I used the word "jitty" the other day and no one knew what it meant because I was with 3 people, 1 was from birmingham, 1 was from bingley and the other from downsouth somewhere!

I don't really remember much about the town centre...I was 7 when I moved from Notts to London. Don't remember many more colloquialisms at this time in the morning.....maybe I'll think of some tomorrow, or you'll have to remind me of a few more when we get to Kent!

my boyfriend's at uni now, he got a C and an E at a level, and has just finished his first year with a 2:1, and he could have got a first if he'd gone to more lectures!

don't be disheartened! have a look through clearing and ring up and speak to admissions tutors. talk to your teacher(s) and see what they'd recommend resit wise. if you're only taking a few exams it will be a lot easier than doing 3 a levels at once so you will do better anyway!

if i were you, i'd take a year out to sort your head out - is uni really want you want to do? in that year you can get some work experience and resit some exams, then reapply. maybe you could go to a different college and take some different a levels, or an NVQ? my friend did that after her AS levels went tits up and she really enjoyed it! if you know uni is for you get onto those admissions tutors and talk your way in! lots of unis also run access courses, where you can do a foundation year before you start the degree.

i agree with the person who said about exam technique - it might be worth paying to have some of your scripts sent back to see where you went wrong.
