the ultimate valentine's thread

arghhh so many threads on the topic...

so i thought i'd make this the ultimate one + try and incorportate as many different points as possible.

the general opinion seems to be that posting cards is best- 1st class will get there next day if you post nice and early in the day. 2nd class takes 3/4 days.
if you really want to send an e-card try here

people (myself included) seem pretty clueless about what to get people. so what suggestions do people have and what would you like to receive yourself?

see these threads for more info...
valentines day card
if a guy sent you...
V-day for men
who will be your valentine?

For Londoners who want to buy their gf the best, here are my recommendations, in ascending order of price. Each has their own special Valentine's products.

Flowers - Moyses Stevens - Sloane St (Florists to the royals)
Chocolates - Godiva - Chocolate Room in Harrods.
Underwear - Janet Reger - Beauchamp Place (absolutely stunning panties!).
Shoes - Jimmy Choo - (New) Bond Street boutique.
Jewellery - Tiffany's - (Old) Bond Street.

u obviously go for the cheap option then....surely if you feel you need to spoil them will gifts you have missed the point of valentines day and have gone for the comericalised rubbish which is what it is turning into

How many people our age can actually afford to buy that sort of stuff? I'd feel hideously guilty if someone bought be anything like that!

I never said women shouldnt be in the olympics. They should have their own seperate olympics.

Valentine's Day - pfeh, what a crock. I'm just glad that I am way too cynical to ever buy into something as lame as that.
Joey_Johns
Because having women competing in the olympics defeats the spirit of the real olympics.

how does that work?

Oh, if the ancient Greeks did it, then it must be great. Maybe we should all set up churches to Zeus, then?

but it is just that, ancient... time to move on me thinks and just accept that there are female athletes and that they should compete in these world events.

Well, I suggested them as really special gifts. They are hideously expensive, but this probably would make them a gift to remember.

I don't feel I need to spoil her with gifts. I do it because I want to. That it is expensive only makes the gift more unique, and special. And those shops hardly sell "commercialised rubbish". I suppose your future wife's engagement ring is gonna be a hoola hoop. After all, Tiffany's diamond rings are just commercialised rubbish profiting from weddings.

So if thats the case the disabled olympics should be run at exactly the same time. I would be happy for all three to run together.

i actually do think that they should be run at the same time, yes.

You want the men to be naked and do Pankration as well then?

The price tag on a gift is not what makes it special. If I were with someone who couldn't afford that stuff but got me something really nice that he'd thought loads about, I'd appreciate it far more than if I were just with some rich guy who bought "the best" just because he could.

Amexblack is making the point that some girls actually like presents like that. I know my girlfriend certainly does. Ok, you dont, but each to their own etc.

Bear in mind that most of the time, especially in the run up to the joyous day that is Valentine's day, I will be being bitter. It is my way, and it will probably always be so.

Sure, I would like presents like that (except the Jimmy Choos as I'm crap at walking in high shoes, and they hurt!). I'm just attempting to say that not everyone can afford it, and people shouldn't be made to feel bad just because they can't.

Couldn't really give a damn about the Olympics - just picked up that bit cos it amused me.
