Isn't Blair New Labour himself and the creator of most of the New Labour principles? It seems like an odd question to me. Are you sure you dont mean Old Labour?

You should probably go into the new labour ideas such as collectivism, acceptance of the free market, support for health and education and stuff like that, also mention the new clause 4 and the third way. Then compare it with what Blairs done. At least thats how i would do it.

Thats a tricky question as Blair effectively is New Labour whilst Brown etc are still pretty much traditional Labour 'Beer and Sandwiches' folk.

All I can think of is Blair's willingness to intervene in International Affairs because many other policies such as Independance of the Bank of England, removal of Clause 4 and Union Blockvotes.

Perhaps you could twist minimum wage, increases in funding for Public Services as more Democratic Socialist (ie, certain elements of New Labour) than Social Democrat (ie Blar and Third Way).

Dont envy you with this question, a favourite of our clearly Old Labour Unit 2 teacher is 'New Labour are more concerned with winning power than Socialist Ideology'.

Cheers,

Tom

Brown is certainly not Old Labour. Brown has much more in common with Blair than he does with, say, Michael Foot, Tony Benn or any other 'Old' Labour stalwart. Don't forget that it is Brown who transferred the power to set interest rates to the MPC in the Bank of England - one of the most Thatcherite of New Labours policies.

TB is the architect of 'New Labour'. Brown is more of a traditional labour man.

I don't know who set you that question but it's a waste of time. Blair is the leading figure behind New Labour, I would suggest you write about the real differences in the Labour party. ie. Old Labour vs New Labour..... Compare the differences between people in powerful positions like Blair and Livingstone, and also why not compare the (new) Labour Government to the (old) Labour administration that currently governs the Welsh assembly (there are some interesting points to be made from the differences in policies and outcomes of those two executives).
